Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
An STA is needed in order for Applicant to make certain determinations about the technical feasibility, operation and reliability of its product. In order to make such a determination, Applicant must be able to test the operation of the product in the actual residential environment in which it is intended to operate. Because type acceptance authorization for the equipment has not yet been obtained, an STA is necessary in order for Applicant to begin product testing. Timely commencement of the testing process is necessary in order for Applicant to meet its timetable for bringing its product to market. Accordingly, Applicant requests expeditious processing of this application so that it may commence testing as planned on August 28, 2000.

Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:  The applicant intends to test the operation of a product which will operate as a combination storage/communications device. The purpose of the test is to determine the technical feasibility, operation and reliability of the product in a residential environment. Specifically, Applicant hopes to determine the following: (1) whether its product can tolerate an outdoor environment for an extended period of time; (2) whether its product will be able to transmit and receive under various weather and terrain conditions; (3) whether Applicant's installation plans fully accommodate the needs at a residence, including the ability to successfully address coverage issues and ‘shadowing issues' commonly faced by RF signals; and whether the product's antenna is large enough to accommodate the product's technical requirements.
