                                EXHIBIT 1
REQUEST FOR EXTENSION OF SPECIAL TEMPORARY AUTHORITY

DIRECTV Enterprises, LLC (“DIRECTV”) respectfully requests an extension of its grant

of special temporary authority (“STA”)1 for an additional 60 days—from December 31, 2017

through March 1, 2018—to add new emission designators for telemetry, tracking, and control

(“TT&C”) at its Long Beach, California earth station (Call Sign E050255) prior to grant of its

pending modification application.2 DIRECTV filed a modification application on October 9,

2017 to add five new emission designators for TT&C to each of the earth station’s two 8.1 meter

Ka-band antennas.3 The new TT&C emission designators will control operations for the

Spaceway 1 satellite at the 103º W.L. orbital location, the Spaceway 2 satellite at the 99º W.L.

orbital location, and the T8 satellite at the 101º W.L. orbital location. DIRECTV’s pending

modification application contains complete technical details regarding the proposed TT&C

emission designators, which are incorporated by reference here. On October 27, 2017, the

Commission granted DIRECTV’s STA request for use prior to grant for a 60-day period

beginning October 31, 2017.4 DIRECTV’s modification application was accepted for filing on

December 6, 2017,5 and its current grant of STA expires on December 30, 2017.

Extending DIRECTV’s grant of special temporary authority for an additional 60-day

period will serve the public interest by ensuring safe flight operations through the provision of

TT&C services to DIRECTV satellites during their on-orbit operation. DIRECTV understands

that all operations pursuant to a grant of special temporary authority will be on a non-

interference basis. DIRECTV does not anticipate that addition of the TT&C emission

designators to the earth station’s two Ka-band antennas will cause any harmful interference or

adversely affect any other authorized users. DIRECTV further understands that any grant of

special temporary authority will be without prejudice to action on the underlying pending

modification application.
