Request for Extension of Special Temporary Authority On September 11, 2014, O3b Limited (“O3b”) submitted a request for special temporary authority (“STA”) 1 to operate an earth station to be located at the Naval Aviation (NAVAIR) Special Communications Requirements (SCR) Division in St. Inigoes, Maryland (“St. Inigoes Earth Station”) that will communicate with the satellite system operated by O3b. The AT&T Earth Station sought a 30-day STA for the period between November 24, 2014 and December 24, 2014. Pursuant to Section 25.120 of the Commission’s rules, 2 O3b hereby requests a further extension of its STA covering the 180-day period between December 25, 2014, and May 24, 2015. O3b’s extension request is supported by good cause. An extension will enable O3b to continue demonstration of the advantages of its system’s high throughput and low latency for providing a variety of valuable communications services, including voice, data transfers and video conferencing using connected devices. The public interest will be served by allowing O3b to show how its system can effectively deliver high bandwidth network connectivity to Department of Defense facilities and employees.
