                         *** Expedited Action Requested ***
              APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL TEMPORARY AUTHORITY
                     (Call Sign E000696, NWM-16 and NWM-17)

SES Americom, Inc. (“SES”) respectfully requests a 30-day Special Temporary Authority
(“STA”) to receive signals in the 4500-4800 MHz from the Netherlands-licensed SES-6 satellite
at 40.5° W.L. using antennas NWM-16 and NWM-17 on earth station E000696. See SES
Americom, Inc., File No. SES-MFS-20130604-00470 (granted in part Mar. 14, 2014). The
proposed receipt of such signals will be on a temporary, non-protected basis for the limited
purpose of monitoring customer carriers to ensure quality of service. The customer carriers that
will be monitored under the requested authority are all intended to be received outside of the
United States.

Grant of the requested temporary authority will serve the public interest by enabling SES to
monitor and manage the quality of service provided to customers outside the United States in the
4500-4800 MHz band from SES’s Network Operations Center (“NOC”) in Bristow, Virginia.
As is typical, grant of the requested STA will be on a non-protected, non-harmful interference
basis. SES respectfully requests expedited action by no later than May 19, 2014, so that
carrier monitoring at SES’s Virginia NOC can support preparations for telecasts of the World
Cup in Brazil.

SES acknowledges that grant of the requested authority would not prejudge the Commission’s
consideration of SES’ pending request for long-term authority to receive in the 4500-4800 MHz
band using the NWM-16 and NWM-17 antennas. See SES Americom, Inc., File No. SES-MFS-
20130604-00470 (deferred in part Mar. 14, 2014).
