REQUEST FOR EXTENSION OF SPECIAL TEMPORARY AUTHORITY

XM Radio Inc. (“XM Radio”) and Sirius XM Radio Inc. (“Sirius XM” and with

XM Radio, the “Sirius XM Parties”), respectfully request a 30-day extension of space station and

earth station special temporary authority (“STA”). Authority is requested to allow continued use

of the XM Radio earth station (call sign E040204) and the Sirius XM earth station (call sign

E080168), both in Ellenwood, Georgia, to perform Telemetry, Tracking and Control (“TT&C”)

in order to drift the XM-5 space station (call sign S2786) to its assigned orbital location at

85.2º W.L and maintain it there. In addition, XM Radio seeks authority to operate the XM-5

TT&C payload during and after completion of the drift.

XM Radio launched XM-5 on October 14, and the satellite is licensed to operate

as an in-orbit spare at 85.2º W.L. The Commission previously granted STAs to allow in-orbit

testing (“IOT”) of XM-5 to be conducted at 80º W.L. and to permit drift of the satellite from
                                                       1
80º W.L. to 85.2º W.L. following completion of IOT. Testing of XM-5 has now been

completed, and the spacecraft is currently moving toward 85.2º W.L. However, the satellite will

not arrive at its destination prior to expiration of the current STAs. Accordingly, the Sirius XM

Parties respectfully request extension of the STAs pursuant to the same terms and conditions.
