Ms. Campbell,

Thank you for helping me with submitting the GeneSat-1 STA online filing today.

As you asked, I am sending the following explanation of our project and the need
for an STA.

The Project:
GeneSat-1 is a Cubesat (10cm X 10cm X 30 cm) which utilizes 2.4Ghz communication
for command and control, and for data transmission from the spacecraft. It will
demonstrate nanosatellite technology for experiments in space.

We currently have an application for this spacecraft transmitter pending
approval with the FCC / ITU. The application describes the approx. 0.25 watt RF
transmitter on the satellite; it was submitted in the SpaceCap-5 format as
required by FCC / ITU.

The Concern:
Concern has been raised by our reviewers that the CubeSat-1 mission would be
compromised, if we experienced interference on the 2.4Ghz communications. The
concern is that for a variety of 2.4Ghz users who might cause interference, we
would not be able to ask those sources of interference to stand down for the
duration of our mission.

The Request:
To provide our operation with the necessary stature of license to secure the
mission, we request Special Temporary Authority to operate the 2.4 GHz
transmitter for the duration of the GeneSat-1 primary mission, which will have a
duration of 2 months or less.

Please let me know if I can provide further information to help move this
forward.

Thanks again,

Mike Miller
