Re: In the Matter of LightSquared Subsidiary LLC Request for Modification of its
Authority for an Ancillary Terrestrial Component; SAT—MOD—20101118—00239

Dear Ms. Dortch:

I understand that the FCC is going to make a decision on a new Internet technology
called 4G LTE with a satellite backup by a company called LightSquared. I wanted to
take this opportunity to give my opinion about on the importance of continuing to test
this new network.

I work as a nurse in Maine, and was formerly a paramedic in the Colorado Rockies and
firefighter in the Midwest. One of the most important issues facing first responders and
health care providers is reliable crisis communications. In many areas I work and have
worked, there is no wireless broadband or it is not reliable. The LightSquared network, as
I understand it, would allow for seamless transition to satellite communications should
terrestrial towers go down. This is not a matter of convenience in times of crisis it‘s
about saving lives.

1 believe that broadband should be a priority. I urge that the potential LightSquared
network not be halted while issues with the GPS system are worked out. Because of my
profession, I understand the importance of GPS, but it seems to make sense to allow them
to continue building the network while these issues are being worked out.

It is my understanding that LightSquared is committed to working to make sure its
network will not interfere with GPS...but how can it do thatif it cannot continue the
project?

Sincerely,

Michael Jones:
