                            PA/BT Electronic Stethoscope Operation
1. Introduction
The Precordial Pickup (PP) with chest piece head and the Bluetooth Piezo Precordial Amplifier (PA/BT) comprise
an electronic stethoscope to provide amplified auscultation sounds to a Bluetooth headset or to a set of headphones.

                                                                        Headset

                                             Chest
                                                              Headset
                                             Piece
                                                                                      Bluetooth
                                                      PA/BT Headset

        Chest Piece Head

2. Operation with Headset
Plug a PP with chest piece head into the Chest Piece jack of the PA/BT and plug a headset into the Headset jack.
The PA/BT detects the presence of the PP and automatically turns ON. The PA/BT amplifies the auscultation signal
and presents it to the headset. When finished using the PA/BT, unplug the PP to turn it Off.

3. Operation with Bluetooth Headset
Plug the PP into the Chest Piece jack of the PA/BT. The PA/BT detects the presence of the Chest Piece and
automatically turns ON. Before operating with a Bluetooth headset, the PA/BT must be paired with that Bluetooth
headset. The PA/BT can only be paired with one Bluetooth headset at a time.

To pair with a new Bluetooth headset, the previous pairing in the PA/BT is first deleted by depressing the Reset
button accessed through the small hole in the front panel of the PA/BT. This will cause the green light on the front
panel of the PA/BT to blink rapidly.

While the green light on the PA/BT is blinking rapidly, put the Bluetooth headset in pairing mode following the
directions provided with the Bluetooth headset. (For the THT-39 Bluetooth headset, this is accomplished by starting
with the headset Off, then holding the button on the front of the unit down for about 8 seconds until the blue light
stays On. For the THT stereo Bluetooth headset, this is accomplished by starting with the headset Off, then holding
the Power/Connect button on the right ear piece down for about 5 seconds until the blue and red lights alternately
flash.)

Once pairing is completed, the green light on the PA/BT will blink slowly. Following the instructions provided
with the Bluetooth headset, establish a Bluetooth audio connection with the PA/BT. (For THT-39 Bluetooth
headset, this may be done automatically, but if not, press and release the button on the front of the unit. For the THT
stereo Bluetooth headset, this is accomplished by pressing and releasing the Power/Connect button.) Once
connecting and transmitting, the green light on the PA/BT will stay steadily On.

Once a Bluetooth audio connection is established, it is possible to break that audio connection while maintaining the
background Bluetooth connection. For the THT-39 and stereo Bluetooth headsets, is done by pressing the Connect
button on the Bluetooth headset. When the audio connection is broken in this state, the green light on the PA/BT

will blink slowly with a double flash. Re-establishing the audio connection from the Bluetooth headset causes the
green light on the PA/BT to light steadily again.

When finished using the PA/BT, unplug the PP to turn it Off and turn the Bluetooth headset Off following the
directions provided with the Bluetooth headset. (For the THT-39 Bluetooth headset, this is done by holding the
main button until the red light flashes. For the THT stereo Bluetooth headset, this is done by holding the Connect
button down until the red and blue lights flash.)

4. Auscultation
Whether through the cabled headset or through the Bluetooth headset, an auscultation exam may be conducted by
placing the chest piece at the points of interest and listening via the headset. While holding the chest piece during an
auscultation exam, minimize finger movement to avoid finger noise.

When using a Bluetooth headset, don’t set the gain set too high to avoid distortion due to overdriving the Bluetooth
amplifier. Use the Bluetooth headset volume controls to set the volume to a level that allows the auscultation
sounds to be clearly heard.

5. Battery Conservation
When not in use, unplug the PP from the PA/BT to conserve the batteries.
6. Battery Replacement
Slide back the battery cover on the backside of the PA/BT to expose the two AAA batteries. Remove the old
batteries and put two new AAA batteries in their place being careful to align the polarity of the batteries as shown in
the diagram in the battery compartment. Put the battery cover back in place sliding it shut.

7. Cleaning
Clean the PP and chest piece and the PA/BT by wiping them with a moist cloth, alcohol or a sanitizing towelette.

8. Specifications
Frequency Range is 20 Hz – 2,000 Hz.
Two AAA Batteries are used in the PA/BT.
