TUNE UP PROCEDURE for SAILOR 6222 GMDSS VHF
SAILOR 6222 GMDSS VHF always requires a license to operate.


Channel programming
SAILOR 6222 is pre-programmed by the manufacture with the International Maritime VHF
Channel table according to Radio Regulation appendix 18 as well as the US channels, the Canadian
channels and the Inland Waterways channels. The operator can select the channel set in question by
a soft-key operation. The users have to apply the authority for a license and a private channel
allocation. The private channels can only be programmed into the radio by a general agent or the
manufacture by special Service tools.
Users are not able to access or change any of the pre-programmed channels.


Power settings
Power settings are adjusted at the factory. The settings for the normal “High” power and the
reduced “Low” power are saved and locked in the radio and is not accessible for the user. The user
is not able to change any of the preset power settings. The user can only select the preset “Low
power” or “High power” by pushing a button on the keyboard.

Press the key 1W to toggle the transmit power between low
(1 W, LO is displayed) and high (25 W).


Power on and volume in handset and speaker
The VHF radio has a dual-function on/off wheel knob for power
on/off and volume control.
• To power on the VHF radio press the on/off wheel knob.
• To power off the VHF radio, press and hold the on/off wheel
knob and follow the instructions in the display.
• To adjust the speaker volume, turn the volume wheel knob (clockwise =
louder, counter clockwise = softer, until muted). When muted, is
shown in the display.


Working channel and changing settings
Use the selector wheel knob to browse and select:
• To browse and select settings, turn the selector wheel knob
and press for accept.
• To select a working channel use the selector wheel knob or
enter the channel number using the keypad.

A single, short press on the 16/C key will always bring you
to channel 16, the international calling and distress
channel, no matter what state the radio is in.

Make a radio telephone call
Press the PTT button on the handset device. When the TX indicator
lights up in the display, the transmission is active.

To enable reception of a radio signal release the PTT button.
