Radio Dévice Management in Itronix IX100X "Q@—200" Handheld Computer

The Itronix IX100X rugged handheld computer (market name "Q—200") is offered with multiple
data radio options. The IX100X is capable of having both an 802.11b wireless LAN and a cellular
wireless wide—area data radio installed in the same unit. Note that we configure ali cellular WWAN
radios as data—only (no voice) for our North American market.

The Itronix IX100X operating system software is Microsoft Windows CE.NET. Both the WLAN
and WWAN radio devices are managed by the operating system as network interface cards.
CE.NET dynamically monitors the network connections through software "media sense". When
more than one network path is available, the operating system selects the fastest network
connection to transmit and receive data for any application session. As a result, only one
wireless device will transmit at any given time — until that connection is dropped or a faster
network path becomes available.
