Installing DecisioNet Software on an SCO UNIX System
The following sections describe how to install DecisioNet software on
an SCO UNIX system. After installation, refer to Chapter 8,
“Configuring the DecisioNet System Environment,” and Appendix D,
“Customizing the DecisioNet System,” for any additional information
                         you may need.
Before installing the DecisioNet software, make sure the hard disk has
at least 20 megabytes of free space in addition to the normal 10% free
space required on UNIX systems. Refer to the table on the first page of
                         this chapter for space recommendations.
The following instructions assume that SCO UNIX is already installed.

DecisioNet Software on an SCO UNIX System 7-3

Checking the System for Existing Packages
Before you install new DecisioNet software, remove any older versions
that are installed on your system.
1. List the existing packages using the following command:
   customquery ListPackages

2. Remove any DecisioNet software packages using the following
   command:
   custom -r <package name>

Package names are listed in the table at the beginning of this
   chapter.

Copying Files from the Install Tapes
DecisioNet software packages are distributed on tape and must be
copied to the hard disk using the UNIX cpio copy command prior to
installation. Use the following procedures to copy the files from the
install tapes to the disk.
1. Create a directory under the /usr directory to hold the install
   packages. For example: /epl/spoolpkg
   mkdir usr/epl/spoolpkg
2. Change to the directory created in step one.
3. Put the install tape in the tape drive.
4. Type cpio -icvBd < <device name with path>.

Where the device name is the absolute file name for the device (for
   example, /dev/rmt/Sc0s0).
5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to copy the packages from all the DecisioNet
install tapes before proceeding to the next section.

7-4 DecisioNet Software on an SCO UNIX System

All packages on the tapes are copied to separate directories under the
/spoolpkg directory. For example, the NCR:eplbaseapp package is
copied to the /eplbaseapp directory. These directory names are used
                         in the following install process.

Installing EPL Base and Application Runtime Software
                         (NCR:eplbaseapp)
The SCO UNIX custom command is used to copy the install package
                         from the /spoolpkg directories.
                         Type custom -i -p NCR:eplbaseapp -z
                         /usr/epl/spoolpkg/eplbaseapp

UNIX now starts the installation of NCR:eplbaseapp, and gives you
                         messages to show progress.

If any UNIX kernel parameters for EPL are different from what is
already configured in UNIX, messages will show kernel parameters
                         that are being modified (tuned).

UNIX then rebuilds the operating system, if necessary. When UNIX
finishes the installation, it displays the message:

                         Installation complete

DecisioNet Software on an SCO UNIX System 7-5

Installing the Optional EPL Standalone PLU Maintenance
Software (NCR:saplumexe)
The EPL Base and Application Runtime package (NCR:eplbaseapp)
must be installed prior to installing this optional package. The SCO
UNIX custom command is used to copy the install package from the
/spoolpkg directories.
Type custom -i -p NCR:saplumexe -z
/usr/epl/spoolpkg/saplumexe

UNIX starts the installation for NCR:saplumexe, and gives messages to
show progress.

When UNIX finishes the installation, it displays the message:

Installation complete

If you are installing some other POS specific item maintenance
package instead of the Standalone PLU Maintenance package, follow
the instructions that come with that software.

Installing the Optional Scan Process Package
                         (NCR:ScanProcess)
The EPL Base and Application Runtime package (NCR:eplbaseapp)
must be installed prior to installing this optional package. The SCO
UNIX custom command is used to copy the install package from the
                         /spoolpkg directories.
                         1. Type custom -i -p NCR:ScanProcess -z
                            /usr/epl/spoolpkg/ScanProcess

UNIX starts the installation for NCR:ScanProcess.
UNIX asks you to enter a customer name.
                         2. Press Enter to set the default or type a new customer name and
                            then press Enter.
                         3. UNIX asks you to enter a store number.
                         4. Press Enter to set the default or type the store number and then
                            press Enter.
                         5. UNIX asks you to enter scanner device port.
                         6. Press Enter to set the default or type the scanner device port and
                            then press Enter.
                         7. UNIX asks you to enter the host file name.
                         8. Press Enter to set the default or type the host file name and then
                            press Enter.
Progress messages are presented through the various installation
                         stages.
When UNIX finishes the installation, it displays the message:

                              Installation complete

DecisioNet Software on an SCO UNIX System 7-7

Installing the EPL Price Redundancy Package (NCR:PriceRed)
The EPL Base and Application Runtime package (NCR:eplbaseapp)
must be installed prior to installing this optional package. The SCO
UNIX custom command is used to copy the install package from the
/spoolpkg directories.
Type custom -i -p NCR:PriceRed -z
/usr/epl/spoolpkg/PriceRed

UNIX now starts the installation for NCR:PriceRed and gives messages
to show progress.

When UNIX finishes the installation, it displays the message:

Installation complete

Installing the EPL System Information Package
(NCR:SystmInfo)
The EPL Base and Application Runtime package (NCR:eplbaseapp)
must be installed prior to installing this optional package. The SCO
UNIX custom command is used to copy the install package from the
/spoolpkg directories.
Type custom -i -p NCR:SystmInfo -z
/usr/epl/spoolpkg/SystmInfo

UNIX now starts the installation for NCR:SystmInfo and gives
messages to show progress.

When UNIX finishes the installation, it displays the message:

Installation complete

Installing the EPL Information Messaging System Package
                         (NCR:InfoMsg)
The EPL Base and Application Runtime package (NCR:eplbaseapp)
must be installed prior to installing this optional package. The SCO
UNIX custom command is used to copy the install package from the
                         /spoolpkg directories.
                         Type custom -i -p NCR:InfoMsg -z
                         /usr/epl/spoolpkg/InfoMsg

UNIX now starts the installation for NCR:InfoMsg and gives messages
                         to show progress.

When UNIX finishes the installation, it displays the message:

                         Installation complete

Configuring and Customizing the DecisioNet System
After the software is installed, refer to Chapter 8, “Configuring the
DecisioNet System Environment,” for instructions on how to configure
and start the DecisioNet software. Refer to Appendix D, “Customizing
the DecisioNet System,” for information about system features that
permit modification to meet additional site-specific requirements
beyond those described in the configuration chapter.
