Your questions were: 1) The application was for 5.5 watts, the Test Report lists the power as 55 watts, and the measured conducted power is 25 watts. Explain these inconsistencies. 2) Submit a Waiver for 8.33 kHz channel spacing operation. 3) Submit an FAA coordination letter. 1. “The application was for 5.5 watts, the Test Report lists the power as 55 watts, and the measured conducted power is 25 watts. Explain these inconsistencies.” The application should have stated 55 watts. A typographical error was made when filling out the form on the computer. Rockwell Collins would like the application to state 55 watts as the permissible output power. Section 87.131 of the FCC rules states that the maximum permissible power for VHF communications utilizing the A3E and G1D emissions is 55 watts. The VHF-4000E transceiver utilizes only the amount of power necessary to achieve the required service. ARINC 716-10 Section 3.7.1 recommends an output power of 25-40 watts, RTCA DO- 186A Section 2.3.1 requires a minimum of 16 watts and the VHF-4000E is designed to deliver a minimum of 18 watts. 1 FCC Correspondence Number 24664, sent via e-mail January 9, 2003.

2. Submit a Waiver for 8.33 kHz channel spacing operation. A waiver request for the 8.33 kHz spacing was submitted to the Wireless Bureau on November 15, 2002. A copy of the waiver request was electronically filed with the Office of Engineering and Technology (OET) Equipment Certification website January 14, 2003 as a cover letter. As soon as the waiver is granted by the Wireless Bureau, Rockwell Collins will notify the Office of Engineering and Technology. 3. Submit an FAA coordination letter. The FAA coordination letter was received by Rockwell Collins on January 10, 2003 and was submitted via the OET Equipment Certification website January 14, 2003 as a cover letter.
