FCC §2.1093 - RF EXPOSURE INFORMATION
Applicable Standard
According to FCC §2.1093 and §1.1307(b) (1), systems operating under the provisions of this section shall
be operated in a manner that ensure that the public is not exposed to radio frequency energy level in excess
of the Commission’s guideline.

According to KDB 447498 D01 General RF Exposure Guidance

The 1-g and 10-g SAR test exclusion thresholds for 100 MHz to 6 GHz at test separation distances
≤ 50 mm are determined by:
[(max. power of channel, including tune-up tolerance, mW)/(min. test separation distance, mm)] ·
[√f(GHz)] ≤ 3.0 for 1-g SAR and ≤ 7.5 for 10-g extremity SAR, where
1. f(GHz) is the RF channel transmit frequency in GHz.
2. Power and distance are rounded to the nearest mW and mm before calculation.
3. The result is rounded to one decimal place for comparison.
4. When the minimum test separation distance is < 5 mm, a distance of 5 mm is applied to determine SAR
test Exclusion.

For worst case:

The Max Tune-up Output Power: 12mW*50%=6mW
(6/5)* √0.462=0.8<3.0

Result: No need SAR test

FCC §2.1046 & §95.639(a) - RF OUTPUT POWER
Applicable Standard
Per FCC §95.639 (a) (1), No GMRS transmitter, under any condition of modulation, shall exceed 50 W
Carrier power when transmitting emission type A1D, F1D, G1D, A3E, F3E or G3E.

Test Procedure
The transmitter was placed on a wooden turntable, and it was transmitting into a non-radiating load, which
was also placed on the turntable.

The measurement antenna was placed at a distance of 3 meters from the EUT. During the tests, the antenna
height and polarization as well as EUT azimuth were varied in order to identify the maximum level of
emissions from the EUT .The test was performed by placing the EUT on 3-orthogonal axis.

Remove the EUT and replace it with substitution antenna. A signal generator was connected to the
substitution antenna by a non-radiating cable. The absolute levels of the emissions were measured by the
substitution.

FCC §2.1047 & §95.637(a) - MODULATION CHARACTERISTIC
Applicable Standard
Per FCC §2.1047 and §95.637(a): A GMRS transmitter that transmits emission type F3E must
not exceed a peak frequency deviation of plus or minus 5 kHz. A FRS unit that transmits emission
type F3E must not exceed a peak frequency deviation of plus or minus 2.5 kHz, and the audio
frequency response must not exceed 3.125 kHz .

Each GMRS transmitter, except a mobile station transmitter with a power output of 2.5 W or
less, must automatically prevent a greater than normal audio level from causing over-modulation.
The transmitter also must include audio frequency low pass filtering, unless it complies with the
applicable paragraphs of § 95.631 (without filtering.) The filter must be between the modulation
limiter and the modulated stage of the transmitter. At any frequency (f in kHz) between 3 and 20 kHz,
the filter must have an attenuation of at least 60 log 10 (f/3) dB greater than the attenuation at 1 kHz.
Above 20 kHz, it must have an attenuation of at least 50 dB greater than the attenuation at 1 kHz.

FCC §2.1049 & §95.633(a) - AUTHOURIZED BANDWIDTH AND
EMISSION MASK
Applicable Standard

According to §95.633(a), The authorized bandwidth (maximum permissible bandwidth of a
transmission) for emission type H1D, J1D, R1D, H3E, J3E or R3E is 4 kHz. The authorized
bandwidth for emission type A1D or A3E is 8 kHz. The authorized bandwidth for emission type
F1D, G1D, F3E or G3E is 20 kHz.

The power of each unwanted emission shall be less than TP as specified in the applicable
paragraphs listed in the following :

1) At least 25 dB (decibels) on any frequency removed from the center of the authorized
bandwidth by more than 50% up to and including 100% of the authorized bandwidth.

2) At least 35 dB on any frequency removed from the center of the authorized bandwidth by
more than 100% up to and including 250% of the authorized bandwidth.

3) At least 43 + 10 log 10 (T) dB on any frequency removed from the center of the authorized
bandwidth by more than 250%.

FCC §2.1053 & §95.635(b) - RADIATED SPURIOUS EMISSION
Applicable Standard
FCC §2.1053 and §95.635

Test Procedure
The transmitter was placed on a wooden turntable, and it was transmitting into a non-radiating load, which
was also placed on the turntable.

The measurement antenna was placed at a distance of 3 meters from the EUT. During the tests, the antenna
height and polarization as well as EUT azimuth were varied in order to identify the maximum level of
emissions from the EUT .The test was performed by placing the EUT on 3-orthogonal axis.

The frequency range up to tenth harmonic of the fundamental frequency was investigated.

Remove the EUT and replace it with substitution antenna. A signal generator was connected to the
substitution antenna by a non-radiating cable. The absolute levels of the spurious emissions were measured
by the substitution.

Spurious emissions in dB =10 1g (TXpwr in Watts/0.001)-the absolute level
Spurious attenuation limit in dB = 43+10 Log10 (power out in Watts)

FCC§2.1055 (d) & §95.621 - FREQUENCY STABILITY
Applicable Standard
According to FCC §2.1055(a) (1), the frequency stability shall be measured with variation of ambient
temperature from –30 ºC to +50 ºC, and according to FCC 2.1055(d) (2), the frequency stability shall be
measured with reducing primary supply voltage to the battery operating end point which is specified by the
manufacturer.

According to FCC §95.621, Each GMRS transmitter for mobile station, small base station and control
station operation must be maintained within a frequency tolerance of 0.0005 %( 5 ppm).

Test Procedure
Frequency Stability vs. Temperature: The equipment under test was connected to an external DC power
supply and the RF output was connected to a Frequency Counter via feed-through attenuators. The EUT
was placed inside the temperature chamber. The DC leads and RF output cable exited the chamber through
an opening made for the purpose.

After the temperature stabilized for approximately 20 minutes, the frequency output was recorded from the
Frequency Counter.

Frequency Stability vs. Voltage:

1)Vary primary supply voltage from 85 to 115 percent of the nominal value for other than hand carried
battery equipment.

(2) For hand carried, battery powered equipment, reduce primary supply voltage to the battery operating
end point which shall be specified by the manufacturer.
The output frequency was recorded for each voltage.
