Active Personal Emergency Response System (ActivePERS)
Model Number: AP001

Introduction

ActivePERS is a personal emergency response pendant with patented and clinically
validated automatic fall detection algorithms developed by BioSensics, LLC. The key
features and benefits of the ActivePERS technology include detecting falls with clinically
validated and patented algorithms that virtually eliminate false alarms, monitoring the
number of steps taken hourly or daily, and notifying providers when the pendant is not
worn by the subscriber.

Activating Your Device

The ActivePERS devices will arrive in a mode designed to save power while sitting on a
shelf. In this mode, the sensors will not detect falls or send messages of any kind.

To exit this mode and enter active mode, press and hold the button until the LED turns
on, and then release the button. This will take three seconds. Once this occurs, the
device will operate in its normal mode.

NOTE: This is a one-time process and cannot be reversed. (i.e. the device cannot go
back to shelf-mode after activation.)

Detecting a Fall

In the case of a fall detected automatically, the LED will turn on, and a fall alert
message will be transmitted.

Measuring Heartbeats

The devices send heartbeat messages once per hour. These messages contain the
accumulated activity information for that time period, with values determined by the
number of steps taken divided by 10. For example, if the user took 530 steps in the
time period, the activity level will be reported ad 53.
The heartbeat message can be identified by the only signal where both the fall and
panic bits are set to zero with the activity level below 255. The activity level is reset
after every heartbeat message.
Sending Panic Signal

To send a panic signal, press and release the button. The LED should turn on upon
release, and a message will be transmitted to indicate the panic.

Clearing Alarm

To clear an alarm and turn off the LED, press and hold the button until the LED
turns off, which will take approximately 10 seconds. This will transmit a clear
alarm message, indicated by the activity level being set to 255.

The LED will turn on and remain on after sending a fall or a panic signal.
Sending a clear alarm signal will turn the LED off.
