Regarding the Application for Experimental License
Wireless Systems and Devices (WiDeS) group at University of Southern California
hereby respectfully requests a program experimental license to conduct channel modeling
research on distributed MIMO technology at 3.3 GHz to 3.7 GHz frequency bands on University
of Southern California campus. WiDeS at University of Southern California is planning to
conduct test for twelve months.
The transmitter located on campus will have sixteen custom-built parasitic patch antennas
with 8 dBi gain and 60 degrees beam width for outputting 10W with the antenna gain to the
receiver located on campus. The experiment plans to use 400 MHz bandwidth, but 3.5 to 3.7
GHz bandwidth within 3.3 to 3.7 GHz bandwidth is not an unlicensed band and require FCC
approval. While we ask for 3.3 to 3.7 GHz band, any 400 MHz bandwidth within 3 to 4 GHz
band will be acceptable for our experiment. The experiment is purely for scientific purposes and
will be conducted with funding from National Science Foundations.
If FCC requires more information from USC WiDeS, please contact Thomas Choi, a
graduate student, at (714) 833-2525 or thomaschoi92@gmail.com.
