Purpose: This authority will permit the operation of ultra-wideband laboratory test
equipment for the purpose of evaluating the functionality of the UWB technology being
developed by Time Domain Corporation. Number of units: 1 transmitter and 1 receiver
This request seeks a special temporary authorization to demonstrate a prototype ultra
wideband (“UWB”) AOA system at the Indiana Convention Center and RCA Dome. The
AOA system is composed of a single mobile transmitter and single fixed receiver.
Antenna Gain: nominally 2.36 dB Radiated Power: The radiated power spectral density is
less than +12 dB above CFR 47 part 15 paragraph 15.517. The total radiated power is
less than 450 microwatts EIRP.

Public Interest showing:
The requested authority will permit the demonstration of an ultra-wideband AOA system.
The commission
has found it to be in the public interest to explore the development of ultra-wideband
technology. See, Notice of Inquiry in ET Docket 98-153 released September 1, 1998.
The demonstration will provide an opportunity for the customer’s at the FDIC show to
witness the application of UWB technology to determine the bearing to a transmitter by
using AOA measurements.
