Attachment to FCC 422 Experimental License Request July 13, 2017

Description of Experimentation – Telephonics intends to receive a TERMA AS built Scanter 5502 X Band
surface movement radar system, mount it on the roof of our building and conduct radar tracking and
processing activities utilizing targets of interest on the taxiways and runways of Republic Airport which is
located adjacent to our facility at 815 Broad Hollow Rd, Farmingdale New York.

The overall goal of this experiment is to determine the robustness and adaptability of the radar to
perform the critical surface movement tracking function in varying degrees of clutter and weather
conditions.

Specific objectives will include:

 Familiarization with the capabilities of the radar including operating modes and site
optimization potential in adverse conditions such as near field blockages, and varying weather
conditions (snow, ice & various intensities of rain)
 Evaluation of the tracking capability to determine its accuracy, robustness and expansion
        capability
 Training of engineering personnel on the maintenance, installation, set to work and site
        optimization criteria
 Completeness and effectiveness of maintenance documentations to effect rapid
troubleshooting and fault isolation and turnaround to operational status
