Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
SSC is in contract with BBN Technologes and Department of Defenses DARPA to demonstrate Wireless Network after Next (WNaN) Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) operation against a wide range of legacy systems. For this, the WNaN system needs to have multiple potential channels to select from. Frequency assignments are thus needed across targetted frequency bands in the several demonstration locations so that the viability of DSA networks in operational legacy system environments can be demonstrated. Also as the DSA system automatically selects the transmission bandwidth based on spectrum availability and the traffic load, access to multiple bandwidth channels is required to demonstrate this capability. SSC is taking extraordinary efforts to ensure that no harmful interference results from these short term experiments.
Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
To test and develop radio communications systems The purpose of these evaluations is to show that the Wireless Network after Next (WNaN) Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) operation system rapidly identifies, and then operates on, the unused channels and thus effectively inter-operates against a wide range of legacy systems. The type of evaluations include: (1) Development testing in the vicinity of the SSC offices, (2) Development evaluations and VIP demonstrations at Fort AP Hill, and (3) Demonstrations at specific government program and contractor offices. Different legacy radios at various transmit powers will be operated across several frequency bands and the network of DSA radios is expected to identify unused channels and operate within acceptable interference limits on those selected channels in such a complex RF environment.
