Please explain the purpose of operation: |
Testing of a Digital Video Broadcast Handheld (DVB-H) system at low power.
A Digital Video Broadcast Handheld (DVB-H) system will be tested indoors at low power. The experimental links will be restricted to the inside of the main building of a satellite earth station operated by the Applicant in Vernon Valley, New Jersey. The purpose of the testing is to verify the performance of UHF mobile communications base-station equipment for use in an experimental DVB-H link. The DVB-H system to be tested incorporates H.264 compression, error correction and OFDM modulation which have not yet been deployed in the U.S. Applicant has already obtained experimental authority for related operations of the same equipment in its Princeton, New Jersey laboratory. The new location is needed to permit Applicant to test and monitor the quality of live video source signals received at the Vernon Valley earth station, which are not available at the Princeton lab. Applicants planned service offering will involve the use of two non-adjacent channels. The seamless integration of two different frequency blocks on a handheld receiving device presents special issues which need to be investigated prior to launching a field trial. Therefore, Applicant requires the use of both channels 54 and 59. The very low power levels and the indoor-only operations will prevent the occurrence of harmful interference to any licensed broadcast facilities on these channels, and operations will, in any event, be subject to prior coordination by the Society of Broadcast Engineers. |
