White Spaces testing
PRR seeks Special Temporary Authority to operate a simulated TVBD in the vicinity of Times Square, New York City. The device would operate within one 6 MHz TV channel in the range of UHF TV channels 21-51 (512-698 MHz) using an actual bandwidth of less than 6 MHz. The device would have a maximum power level of 0.1W (100 mW) ERP. Its emissions would comply with OFDM and 8-VSB (ATSC) standards.
The testing would be under the supervision of experienced audio RF engineers from PRR and Masque Sound and Recording. Other audio and RF professionals intend to observe the tests.
Specific times, locations, and channels will be selected in close coordination with Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) personnel in New York City (the SBE 15 coordinator) to avoid interference with any broadcast television operations and any other wireless microphone use.
Initial testing would involve setup, calibration, and measurements in a shielded environment. Following this, field tests would be conducted at various points within 1 km of 346 West 44th Street, Shubert Alley (Lat.: N40-45-28; Long: W73-59-12). PRR expects initial setup to take no more than ten (10) hours and field testing to take no more than two (2) continuous hours, but requests flexibility given the need for extensive coordination in the heavily used Times Square frequency environment.
PRR seeks an extension of its STA through February, 2010 to continue tests and to conduct new tests using an authorized power level of 4 Watts and an antenna height of 30 meters AGL on an existing structure. |
