Authority is requested to utilize the Fortem Technologies DAA-R20 to perform a radar performance
characterization as applied to airborne collision avoidance for sUAS in support of FAA sponsored
development. Under FAA funding through Air Force contract FA8702-15-D-0001, MIT Lincoln
Laboratory is testing and prototyping collision avoidance systems for small unmanned aircraft. The
radar will be used to detect and track incoming aircraft, both other small unmanned aircraft and any
manned aircraft enabling the unmanned aircraft to maneuver and avoid collisions with other aircraft
and objects in the vicinity.
