Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
The program is in the process of filing the necessary paperwork to execute a DD-1494 in accordance with US Department of Defense requirements. It is also intended to submit an application for a full FCC license to follow the STA. The urgency of mission requirements is driving the need for a STA (i.e. not sufficient time to secure an FCC license in order to satisfy the testing requirement). The aircraft is envisaged to operate within 10 nm of Bridgewater Air field, Bridgewater, VA 22812 for the purposes of completing the proposed testing.

Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:  A line-of-sight communications system that connects an aircraft and a ground station. This application is for the use of a line-of-sight communications system that connects an aircraft and a ground station. This system is for short-term testing and validation of capabilities prior to deploying to Afghanistan where the system will be integrated into an existing airborne ISR platform used to support Operation Freedom's Sentinel.
