Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Currently Title 47 section 15.253 forbids the use of specific frequency radars in aircraft or satellites. Honeywell intends to employ a radar of this frequency during tests only on the ground, treating the aircraft as a ground vehicle. If feasibility is confirmed, the FCC will be contacted to explore whether or not there is a possible regulatory path to acceptance of the use of such radar on aircraft while on the ground and taxing, with appropriate precautions exercised to assure the radar cannot transmit in flight. There is a current NPRM (FCC 11-79) which proposes changes to 15.253 for similar devices which we?ve attached to this STA.
Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
Testing of a radar on aircraft while on the ground. The intent of the testing and the final product is ground use only of the production radar on aircraft while taxing on the ground. The unit under test would only be operational on the ground, and the final product is intended for ground use only as well.
