This is an unchanged installation that has been used since at least 2009. The facility consists of a single TCAS installation with both a top and bottom antenna on the roof of the Honeywell lab facility in Redmond, WA. This test setup is used to demonstrate the TCAS’ ability to track intruders and receive ADS-B transmissions. The TCAS transmits on 1030 MHz and receives responses from aircraft transponders on 1060 MHz. TCAS on aircraft track intruder aircraft using transmission from the transponder. Transponder responses are used to track range, bearing, and altitude of an aircraft being tracked. TCAS uses range rate and relative altitude to generate alerts against intruder aircraft. There is NO transponder in this test setup, therefore this installation is invisible to aircraft and ATC in the area and will not cause alerts to be called against it.
