4. Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
General Dynamics has created prototype units of a new satcom system ready to be installed for testing,
demonstration and training to the U.S. Signal Corps at Fort Gordon, GA by the end of this week. Two of these
prototype systems have already been provided to the U.S. military for use in Iraq, and orders for 25 more have
already been accepted. General Dynamics anticipates that the STA will be required for a period of time less than 6
months, until an application for experimental authorization has been filed and granted.
5. Please explain the purpose of operation:
Testing, demonstration and training of a Ku-band VSAT-type satcom network utilizing a hub terminal and sub-
meter mobile terminals to provide services predominantly for military applications. Testing, demonstration and
training of a Ku-band VSAT-type satcom network utilizing a hub terminal and sub-meter mobile terminals to
provide private satellite communications services predominantly for military applications. The system is intended
to demonstrate wideband service using FSS satellite transponders. Please see the attached narrative for further
information.
