STA Application – Microwave Channels
1258-EX-ST-2016
Frequency Coordination Exhibit
Austin, Texas Formula One American Grand Prix Automobile Race
October 20, 2016 through October 24, 2016

This application proposes the use of certain microwave bands in the Austin, Texas area
for terrestrial only, international and domestic video production operation and for data,
video short-range, low power transmission and telemetry for racing cars and teams during
the American Grand Prix Formula One automobile race event and for testing prior to the
event within and immediately surrounding the Circuit of the Americas Race Track. An
engineering analysis has shown that there should be no interference to any licensed user
of any of the subject bands whatsoever. This application is similar to prior
applications granted by the Commission for the identical event in past years at the
same location. See, WF9XYQ, File No. 0724-EX-ST-2012; WG9XAH, File No. 0789-
EX-ST-2013, and WH9XYP, File No. 0911-EX-ST-2014 and WJ9XCH, File No.
1061-EX-ST-2015. No interference was reported at any of the prior events
whatsoever. This application adds one additional microwave band, 902-928 MHz
not requested nor used heretofore however for tire pressure sensors using extremely
low power. Otherwise, all frequencies are identical to those granted by the
Commission in WJ9XCH in 2015.

Should any authorized user of the subject bands report interference during the proposed
operations, operation on that channel will immediately cease and not resume unless and
until the interference complaint is resolved.

Per the Commission’s instruction received in 2015 in 1056-EX-ST-2015, Circuit of the
Americas will notch out the following frequency bands pursuant to this STA:

a. 1260-1270 MHz
b. 1400-1427 MHz
c. 1600-1620 MHz
d. 1660.5-1668.4 MHz
e. 9000-9200 MHz

The application also proposes the use of Amateur Radio frequencies for video production
and for telemetry. The use of amateur allocations in this STA application at have been
coordinated with the American Radio Relay League, Incorporated. Other channels to be
utilized during the race event have been investigated and monitored by Clear Call
Communications, Inc. of Dallas, Texas and found to be unoccupied in the vicinity of
Austin, Texas and in the immediate area of the Race course. Clear Call Communications
will be on site during the race and advance and real time channel monitoring and on-site
frequency coordination will insure against any interference. Given the location of these
events, it is anticipated that no interference will be caused to any Amateur Radio,

government, fixed microwave or broadcast auxiliary operations. Use of broadcast
auxiliary channels will be coordinated in advance with the Society of Broadcast
Engineers’ local frequency coordinator for the Austin Texas market. Upon receipt of any
complaint of interference from a licensed Amateur Radio user, government user, fixed
microwave licensee or broadcast entity (or otherwise), operation pursuant to this STA
will cease on the channel complained about immediately, and will not resume unless and
until the interference complaint is resolved satisfactorily to the licensee.
