Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
This request for Special Temporary Authority (STA) is submitted pursuant to 47 CFR 5.61 to request frequency authorization. The STA is for frequency licensing of the bi-directional datalink controlling the Micro-UAV. The datalink hardware is the Microhard model MHS118200 – pDDL1800 which is a single frequency communication device operating within the band of 1810-1850 MHz which requires FCC licensing.

Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:  The purpose of the operation is for Bell to conduct testing of a small model aircraft known as the Micro-UAV with a weight of less than one pound. Flight testing of the Micro-UAV is part of the product development. Testing is planned at Wrangler Field (Bell Helicopter) just south of Graford, Texas. Bell would like to perform testing within the four different bandwidths indicated by the emission designators. In the interest of resolving any potential frequency conflict, Bell is requesting licensing for the operational range from channels 1 through 56; however, only one channel will be used at any given time.

Exhibit submitted:   No
(a) Width of beam in degrees at the half-power point:
(b) Orientation in horizontal plane:
(c) Orientation in vertical plane:
Will the antenna extend more than 6 meters above the ground, or if mounted on an existing building, will it extend more than 6 meters above the building, or will the proposed antenna be mounted on an existing structure other than a building?   Yes
(a) Overall height above ground to tip of antenna in meters:   182.00

(c) Distance to nearest aircraft landing area in kilometers:   19.30
(d) List any natural formations of existing man-made structures (hills, trees, water tanks, towers, etc.) which, in the opinion of the applicant, would tend to shield the antenna from aircraft: Nearest aircraft landing area is Possum Kingdom Airport-F35 about 19.3 km to the west. Figure 2 in the attachment shows areas of tall trees, crops and sporadic located buildings that would help to attenuate or contain the frequency emissions. Figure 2 also shows the primary test area of Wrangler Field. Wrangler Field is owned by Bell Textron. This test area is deep in the country and surrounded by miles and miles of agricultural farm land.
