The SlimSAR is designed to be operated at altitudes below 5000 ft above ground level and a velocity of
approximately 120 knots. A 60º beamwidth and 45º mounting angle produces a 3-dB footprint on the
ground which is approximately 8100 ft in the direction parallel to the radar's path and 7300 ft in the
direction perpendicular to the radar's path. A footprint with these dimensions has an area of
approximately 6.5 mi2. The SlimSAR transmits a 3.68 μs pulse every 100.4 μs, equating to a 0.037
duty cycle and 2.1 W of average transmit power. A single point on the ground falls within the 3-dB
footprint of the antenna for about 40 seconds as the aircraft passes overhead. During this time, the
target is exposed to an average RF radiation power density of approximately 91 nW/m2 (-40.4 dBm/m2),
based on the average transmit power. For this reason, SlimSAR is expected to have a minimal impact
on other devices that may be operating in the same band.
