SAT-STA-20001016-00144 S2424 VOLUNTEERS IN TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ( d/b/a VITASAT ) Special Temporary Authority Volunteers in Technical Assistance (VITA) has filed a request for special temporary authority to operate VITASAT-1R as its first-round "Little LEO" satellite, pending action on VITA's "notification" pursuant to section 25.142(a)(5) of the Commission's rules, that it plans to replace a space station within the system license term with a technically identical replacement satellite. (See File No. SAT-LOA-20000814-00139) In that Notification, VITA informed the Commission that it intends to operate the communications payload on board "HealthSat-2," an in-orbit satellite authorized on an experimental basis to SatelLife, Inc., as a replacement for VITA's previously authorized VITASAT-1R satellite. VITA is requesting special temporary authority for up to a 180-days to operate the VITASAT-1R as described in the pending application. SAT-STA-20001016-00145 S2227 VOLUNTEERS IN TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ( d/b/a VITASAT ) Special Temporary Authority Volunteers in Technical Assistance (VITA) has filed a request for special temporary authority to operate the VITASAT-2 satellite as its second-round "Little LEO" satellite, pending action on the supplement to its pending request for milestone extension for VITASAT-2, a non-voice-nongeostationary mobile satellite authorized on March 31, 1998. (See File No. SAT-MOD-20000814-00138) The authorization for VITASAT-2 includes a milestone in March 1999 for commencement of construction of the satellite. On March 26, 1999, VITA requested an extension of that milestone. In the supplement, VITA notifies the Commission of an agreement by which VITA will lease a transponder on an in-orbit satellite, satisfying all its milestones under the authorization. VITA is requesting special temporary authority for up to 180 days to operate the VITASAT-2 satellite as set forth in the supplement. Comments or petitions on these requests are due on or before November 9, 2000. Replies or oppositions are due on or before November 15, 2000.
