Special Temporary Authority application - Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:
Purpose of operation is to fly a General Atomics unmanned aerial system (UAS) from Laguna Army Airfield (ICAO KLGF) along a route of flight previously approved by the FAA to the US Navy-owned San Clemente Island airspace contained within the W-291 warning area. While within W-291, the experimental equipment listed in this application will be used to drop sonobuoys in conjunction with the US Navy. This is NOT for a government-funded contract; the operation is being conducted for research and development purposes and is fully funded by General Atomics R&D. This effort is not directly related to any government contract so there is no contract number. Point of contact is Arne Anderson at US Naval Air Systems Command, phone number 301-757-3694. Maximum altitude while in restricted area surrounding Yuma and Warning Area 291 is 25,500 feet MSL; minimum altitude 1000 feet MSL. Emitters listed in this request will NOT radiate when in transit from Yuma Proving Ground to W-291.
