Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
Teligent is in the process of testing a new wireless point-to-multipoint technology from Hughes Network Systems. Because the point-to-multipoint system is part of a much larger end-to-end network (including ATM switches, TDM switches, microwave backhaul, etc.), the entire network will need to be tested to make sure that the Hughes system is working properly. This includes operation with OC3 microwave links which provide the backhaul connection between the multipoint nodes and the class 5 voice switch located in the central office.
Two nodes will be used in the test plan. Each node requires a separate microwave backhaul link connection to the Teligent central office at 1120 Vermont Ave. The two temporary microwave links operating under the STA will not be carrying commercial traffic, but instead will transport test traffic used to verify the end-to-end integrity of voice and data signals carried across the network.
STA applications were originally filed for this purpose on July 7, 2000. The applications originally requested operations beginning August 1, 2000. Due to the system failure affecting the experimental licensing branch's website, however, these applications were lost. File numbers for the original three applications were 0250-EX-ST-2000, 0251-EX-ST-2000, 0252-EX-ST-2000.
