EXHIBIT 1 REQUEST FOR SPECIAL TEMPORARY AUTHORITY DIRECTV Enterprises, LLC (“DIRECTV”) respectfully requests a grant of special temporary authority (“STA”) for 60 days commencing September 4, 2019 to add new satellite points of communication at the nominal 101 W.L. orbital location to DIRECTV’s Los Angeles, California earth station (Call Sign E980285) while DIRECTV’s underlying modification application to permanently add these satellite points of communication to the existing authorization remains pending.1 On July 18, 2019, the Commission granted DIRECTV’s modification application to change the authorized orbital location of DIRECTV’s recently launched T16 satellite (Call Sign S3039) from 102.70° W.L. to 100.85° W.L.2 At the nominal 101 W.L. orbital location, T16 will serve to replace and/or supplement DIRECTV’s existing on-orbit capacity of the T8 (Call Sign S2632),3 T9S (Call Sign S2669),4 and T4S (Call Sign S2430)5 satellites. To fulfill these objectives, DIRECTV plans to use its Los Angeles, California earth station to communicate with T16 and T8 at the nominal 101 W.L. orbital location. communication for Call Sign E980285 with “US LICENSED DirecTV satellites at 101, 110, and 119 WL clusters.”6 By this application, DIRECTV seeks special temporary authority to add DIRECTV’s T16 (Call Sign S3039) and T8 (Call Sign S2632) satellites as satellite points of communication to Call Sign E980285 pending action on DIRECTV’s underlying modification application. Grant of this application is in the public interest because it will facilitate communications with DIRECTV’s satellites at the nominal 101 W.L. orbital location. This, in turn, will extend coverage, improve service performance, and provide additional capacity to customers, thereby promoting the public interest.
