                                    EXHIBIT 1
                    REQUEST FOR SPECIAL TEMPORARY AUTHORITY

DIRECTV Enterprises, LLC (“DIRECTV”) respectfully requests a grant of special

temporary authority (“STA”)1 for 30 days commencing August 1, 2018 to use its Littleton,

Colorado earth station (Call Sign E020242) to provide telemetry, tracking, and command

(“TT&C”) services for its SPACEWAY 1 satellite (Call Sign S2191) during the satellite’s drift

from its current location at 102.95 W.L. to its newly authorized location at 138.9 W.L.2

On April 25, 2018, the Commission granted DIRECTV authority to relocate

SPACEWAY 1 from 102.95 W.L. to 138.9 W.L. and to conduct TT&C functions related to

drifting SPACEWAY 1 to, and maintaining the space station at, the 138.9 W.L. orbital

location.3 The drift to 138.9 W.L. is expected to begin on or about August 1, 2018, and the drift

period is expected to last approximately 60 days. Accordingly, DIRECTV respectfully submits

this STA request for authority to use the earth station to provide TT&C services to the

SPACEWAY 1 satellite for the initial 30 days of the drift period beginning August 1, 2018.

DIRECTV intends to file an additional, 180-day STA request to cover the remaining drift period

at a later time.

The range of earth station frequencies requested to provide TT&C services for

SPACEWAY 1 are:

     29501.3021 MHz and 29509.1146 MHz (T); and

     19701.25 MHz and 19702.25 MHz (R).

1
DIRECTV has filed this STA request, an FCC Form 159, and a $200.00 filing fee electronically via the
International Bureau’s Filing System.

See id.; Modification Request to Relocate SPACEWAY 1 to 138.9 W.L. and Extend License Term, File No. SAT-
MOD-20170912-00129, Stamp Grant (Apr. 25, 2018).

                                                       1

The drift operations will continue to be coordinated with all operators of satellites that

use the same frequency bands and are in the drift path.4 All operators of satellites in that path

will be provided with an emergency phone number where the licensee can be reached in the

event that harmful interference occurs. In the extremely unlikely event that harmful interference

should occur due to transmissions to or from its earth station, DIRECTV will take all reasonable

steps to eliminate the interference.

Grant of this STA request is in the public interest because it will facilitate the relocation

of SPACEWAY 1 from 102.95 W.L. to 138.9 W.L. This, in turn, will provide additional

capacity to customers at the 138.9 W.L. location, thereby promoting the public interest.

Accordingly, DIRECTV respectfully requests that the Commission grant this request.

4
Intelsat License, LLC will handle the coordination.
