Re: Request for Extension of Special Temporary Authority
                    Hagerstown, Maryland Earth Station E170135

Dear Ms. Dortch:

Intelsat License LLC (“Intelsat”) herein requests an additional 30 days of Special Temporary Authority
(“STA”)1 previously granted Intelsat to, to utilize its new 9.4 meter, Ku-band earth station in
Hagerstown, Maryland—call sign E170135—prior to grant of permanent operating authority.2 The
antenna will continue to communicate in the 13.0-13.25 GHz and 13.75-14.50 GHz bands (Earth-to-
space) and 10.7-11.95 GHz band (space-to-Earth) with the U.S.-licensed Intelsat 37e satellite at 18.0º
W.L. Intelsat has a pending application for authorization to operate this antenna.3

In support of this request, Intelsat incorporates by reference its pending application for permanent
authority to operate this antenna.4 The application contains detailed technical information in Exhibits A-
C demonstrating that the earth station’s operations will be compatible with its electromagnetic
environment and will not cause harmful interference to any lawfully operating facility. In the extremely
unlikely event that harmful interference should occur, Intelsat will take all reasonable steps to eliminate
the interference.

Grant of this STA extension request will enable Intelsat to continue utilizing the antenna at its new
location prior to grant of permanent operating authority, thereby serving the public interest by ensuring
the antenna’s readiness to commence service with Intelsat 37e as quickly as possible. In addition, grant
will provide the Commission with additional time in which to continue processing the permanent license
application.
