Request for Special Temporary Authority for 60 Days

Pursuant to Section 25.120(b)(3) of the Federal Communications Commission’s (“FCC”)

rules, SES Americom, Inc. (“SES Americom”) requests special temporary authority (“STA”) for

60 days commencing on May 23, 2016, to use its 13m Ku-band earth station antenna in Mt Airy,

Maryland licensed under call sign E140054 to communicate with the AMC-6 satellite. Authority

is sought pending action on SES Americom’s application to modify the E140054 license in order

to add FSS capabilities to the antenna.1 Grant of the requested STA is in the public interest

because it will allow SES Americom to provide commercial uplink operations for Global Eagle

Entertainment on AMC-6 at 72˚ W.L. orbital location, as previously authorized by the FCC.

On May 12, 2016, SES Americom filed an application to modify the E140054 license to

expand the permissible points of communication, but the application has not yet been placed on

public notice. SES Americom seeks STA to allow the E140054 antenna to provide commercial

uplink services to AMC-6 at 72˚ W. SES Americom hereby incorporates by reference the

materials submitted in support of the E140054 Modification, including all technical data and

exhibits, and notes that coordination for the Ku-band operations in the FSS frequency range has

been completed.

Accordingly, for the reasons stated herein, SES Americom respectfully requests grant of

this STA on or before May 23 2016 to permit use of the E140054 antenna to support commercial

uplink operation on the AMC-6 satellite.
