Re: Request for Extension of Special Temporary Authority
Hagerstown, Maryland C-band Earth Station KA264

Dear Ms. Dortch:

Intelsat License LLC (“Intelsat”) herein requests a 60-day extension -- through
August 14, 2013 -- of the Special Temporary Authority (“STA”)1 previously
granted Intelsat to utilize its Hagerstown, Maryland C-band earth station
KA264 prior to grant of permanent operating authority.2 The antenna will
communicate in the frequency bands 3700-4200 MHz and 5925-6425 MHz
with the U.S.-licensed Galaxy 28 satellite at 89.0º W.L. Intelsat has a pending
application for authority to use this antenna to communicate with U.S.-licensed
satellites in these bands on a permanent basis.3

In support of this request, Intelsat incorporates by reference its pending
application for authority to use this antenna to transmit to this satellite on a
permanent basis.4 The application contains detailed technical information (in
Exhibits B-E) that demonstrates that the operation of the earth station will be
compatible with its electromagnetic environment and will not cause harmful
interference into any lawfully operating facility. In the extremely unlikely

Intelsat has a pending modification application to authorize its use of KA264

Maryland. See Intelsat License LLC Request for Modification of KA264
License, File No. SES-MOD-20130117-00057 (filed Jan. 16, 2013). Although
that application seeks authority for the earth station to operate in extended

conventional C-band.

event that harmful interference should occur, Intelsat will take all reasonable
steps to eliminate the interference.

Grant of this STA extension request will enable Intelsat to continue using this
earth station to communicate with the Galaxy 28 satellite, thereby serving the
public interest. In addition, grant will provide the Commission with additional
time in which to continue processing the permanent license modification
application.

Please direct any questions regarding this STA extension request to the
