                                            Public Interest

Globecomm Systems, Inc. ("GSI") is an applicant for a proposed international 1.0 meter

Kuband transmit/receive earth station at their Hauppauge, New York teleport (E120057; SES—

LIC—20120315—00272). An STA was previously granted (SES—STA—20120315—00273) but was

inadvertently allowed to expire and a subsequent STA request was filed and granted (SES—STA—

20120509—00426). The station is to be used to monitor and test the Maresk shipping companies

vessels at sea communication systems which provide communications as well as tracking

individual shipping containers. These vessels, in many cases, will be communicating directly

with and carrying goods of U.S. Citizens. The STA would give GSI authority to operate the earth

station, to align and test the earth station prior to grant which will avoid delay of use of the

station by the customer when the earth station is authorized. Further STA is requested to

continue with the alignment and testing process. This temporary operation to test and align

would be in the public interest by enabling immediate customer usage of the communications

and cargo tracking upon grant of the license application by providing the customer continued

information relating to domestic and international status that would affect the citizens financial

status and loss of goods. Accordingly, grant of the STA is in the public interest.
