REQUEST FOR SPECIAL TEMPORARY AUTHORITY Call Sign: E120012 New Cingular Wireless PCS, LLC (“New Cingular”), pursuant to Section 25.120 of the rules of the Federal Communications Commission (“Commission” or “FCC”),1 hereby requests Special Temporary Authority (“STA”) to operate a demonstration unit for its VSAT earth station (call sign E120012) for 60 days pending grant of a recently filed application seeking regular authority.2 New Cingular requests authority to operate the demonstration unit pursuant to the technical parameters provided in the pending application, which are incorporated herein by reference.3 Grant of this STA will serve the public interest. New Cingular seeks to use its VSAT authorization to deploy remote terminals to provide interconnection between temporary cell sites and mobile switching centers. These devices will primarily be used by first responders and other public safety entities. Grant of the requested STA will allow New Cingular to demonstrate to first responders and other public safety entities the important uses of the antennas in advance of grant of the authorization for regular authority to ensure that these entities can immediately deploy these antennas following grant of the authorization. In addition, grant of the STA will not cause harmful interference. New Cingular will operate the demonstration unit pursuant to the technical parameters provided in the pending application. As explained in the application, the Commission has previously approved operation of this type of antenna.4 New Cingular Wireless PCS, LLC will operate using the same point of communication, the Galaxy 28 satellite at 89.0° W.L., and within the technical limits previously approved by the Commission in that application and incorporates by reference the filed technical information, including coordination conducted by Intelsat License LLC with adjacent satellite operators.
