                                                                                   Exhibit 1

                          REQUEST FOR EXTENSION
                     OF SPECIAL TEMPORARY AUTHORITY

Pursuant to Section 25.120 of the Commission’s rules, Telesat Network

Services, Inc. (“Telesat”) hereby requests a 30-day extension of its Special

Temporary Authority (“STA”) 1 to operate a 15-m antenna, which is licensed

under Call Sign KA399 and is located at Telesat’s teleport in Mt. Jackson,

Virginia, as a temporary replacement for its 9-m antenna. The STA permits

Telesat to use its 15-m antenna to communicate with Telstar 11N, which is not an

authorized point of communication on the license for the antenna.

Telesat’s 9-m antenna had been taken out of service for repairs after it had

exhibited signs of failure. Although the 9-m antenna recently was returned to

service following major renovations, Telesat needs its 15-m antenna to be

available on a “hot standby” basis during a check-out period, in case problems

should develop. Accordingly, Telesat requests STA for an additional thirty (30)

day period, until January, 27, 2012. Telesat does not expect to file any further

requests to extend its STA.

Telesat’s extension request is supported by good cause, because an

extension will enable Telesat to provide continuity of service should issues arise

during the check-out period. Accordingly, and for good cause shown, Telesat

respectfully requests that its STA extension request be granted.
