12. Description.
GUSA Licensee, LLC ('Globalstar') is applying for an extension of the Special Temporary Authority granted on May 24, 2006 to operate three earth station antennas from its proposed gateway location in Wasilla, Alaska, to communicate with the Globalstar, Inc. Mobile Satellite Service ('MSS') satellite constellation. The earth station antennas are necessary for Globalstar to meet increased customer demand that cannot adequately be met using the earth stations at Globalstar's existing U.S. and Canadian gateways, which are already operating at full capacity and which are at too great a distance from the areas of increased customer demand to provide reliable service. Globalstar has filed three separate applications for special temporary authority -- one for each antenna at the proposed Wasilla, Alaska location. Globalstar requests that they be processed simultaneously. (Please note that on August 9, 2006, the Commission approved the pro forma assignment of the licenses and authorizations held by Globalstar USA, LLC to GUSA Licensee LLC.)
