L3 Communications, Iterstat Electronics Corporation Request for Extension of STA Earth Station E020160 L3 Communiations Interstate Electronics Corporation (‘IC"),pending applicant fora new Ku—Band VSAT network, see FCC File No. SES—LIC—2002061 1— 00939, hereby secks an extension of Special Temporary Authority(*STA") previously granted to IBC to operate the VSAT network while the above—referenced application remains pending. See FCC File No. SES—$TA—20060110—00023, The facilitesare being used by the United States Navy in connection with ts Trident Missle Flight Test Program. The STA has allowed for continued improvements on this sea—based leg of the triad ofAmerican strategic deterrent forces, and is helping tosethe basic communications parameters and long term availabiity staistics. As noted in the previously authorized grants, the public interest would be well served by this STA request. With the continued need for military vigilance, esting and operations ofthe IEC VSAT network will help the United States Navy remain atthe forefront of echnological developments and provide the rapid response necessary in military appliation. Therefore,acting favorably on thisrequest will allow for the use of telecommunications to provide for an improved national defense in an effcient and orderly manner
