Tevromary Autionity Call Sign: 930220 DIRECTV Enterprises, LC (‘DIRECTV*)hereby requests Special Temporary Authority (‘STA")to conduct telemetry, tracking and control (‘TT&C") operations with the DIRECTV 5 satelite during its drft from 72.5° W.L. orbitallocation to 109.8° W.L. DIRECTV requeststhat this STA become effective upon successfultransfer of raffic from DIRECTV 5 to DIRECTV 1 at 72.5° W.L.,and lastforup to thity (30) days thereafter. This STA will enable DIRECTV to repositon DIRECTV 5 to replace another satellte in its feet that is experiencing technical anomalies. DIRECTV currentlyis using DIRECTV 5 to provide DBS service in the United States ffom the Canadian—controlled orbital location at72.5° WL. DIRECTV has filed applications necessary to swap DIRECTV 1 for DIRECTV 5, and to re—license DIRECTV 5 as a U.S. space stationto replace DIRECTV 6, which has continued to experience anomaliesthat have limited itsabilty to generate power, at 109.8° W.L.‘ DIRECTV anticipates the fllowing chain ofevents in connection with the repositioning of DIRECTV . First, DIRECTV 1 will migate to the 72.5° WL. orbital Tocation, where it wll be "reflagged" as a Canadian satelite. Still under ts Canadian Hicense, DIRECTV 5 will be moved slighly (to 72.7° W.L.) to make room for DIRECTV 1 just prior o ts arrival, Over the course ofone evening, the trifi currently cartied on DIRECTV 5 will be transferred to DIRECTV 1. Once this transferis successfully completed, DIRECTV 5 will be available to be reflagged as a U.S.satelite, whereupon it will beain its migration to 109.8° W During the relocation of DIRECTV 5, the satelite‘s communications payload will remain inactive and only the TT&C payload will operate. DIRECTV requests authority to operate on the following TT&C frequencies: Uplinkc 17301 and 17308 MHz Downlinks 12201 and 12202 Mitc. DIRECTV will coordinate with potentially affected satelite operators in accordance with industry practice,and will operate on a nominterference basis. Grant of this STA request will serve the public interest by allowing DIRECTV to conduct the maneuvers necessary to address DIRECTV 6faling health and ensure wuninterrupted service to DIRECTV subscribers. In addition, grant ofthis STA request will not result in increased risk of harmfl interference to any other system..
