Request for Renewal of Special Temporary Authority

        Dear Sir or Madam:

Maritime Telecommunications Network, Inc. ("MTN"), by its attorneys and pursuant to
Section 25.120 of the Commission‘s rules and Mobile Satellite—Based Communications Services
by Crescomm Transmission Services, Inc. and Qualcomm Incorporated, Order, 11 FCC Red
10944 (IB and OET 1996), hereby submits an original and two copies of its Request for Renewal
of Special Temporary Authority ("STA") to operate Ku—band satellite earth stations aboard
        vessels ("ESVs").

On July 18, 2001, the Commission granted STA authority to MTN to operate from July
20, 2001 to September 20, 2001. The Commission has subsequently extended the STA on eight
occasions, most recently for a term ending on December 14, 2004. By this letter application,
MTN respectfully requests extension of its STA for an additional 180 days commencing on
        December 15, 2004 and ending on June 12, 2005.

MTN specifically requests authority for the following:

                   * Operation of up to ten ESVs using stabilized 1.2 meter antennas on U.S.—flagged ships;
                   and
                   * Operation in the 12/14 GHz band with conforming antennas on a non—interference basis
for all operations at any location on water, including when stationary at piers.

MTN‘s application for permanent authority for use of the 12/14 GHz band is currently
pending. See FCC File No. SES—LIC—20011130—02259; Call Sign EO10332. Grant of the instant
request will serve the public interest by permitting MTN to continue to make available its service
while the Commission processes the application for permanent authority. MTN remains
