SAN FRANCISCO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT – CALL SIGN: E040234, FILE NUMBER: SES-REG-20040519-00682 Petition for Reinstatement of Expired Earth Station Licenses The San Francisco Unified School District (“SFUSD”) submits this petition pursuant to 47 C.F.R. § 25.163(a) to reinstate the expired licenses previously held by SFUSD for earth station E040234. As discussed below, SFUSD’s license for this earth station inadvertently expired on May 19, 2019. This earth station is utilized by KALW FM, an enterprise unit of the San Francisco Unified School District, which has been the station’s licensee since it went on the air in 1941. KALW operates as local public radio station from the San Francisco Bay Area, providing access to programming from the BBC, National Public Radio, and innovative local programming. SFUSD respectfully submits that grant of this petition to reinstate this license will serve the public interest, convenience and necessity. SFUSD provides the following information required by 47 C.F.R. §25.163(a): 1. Filing of the Petition for Reinstatement within 30 Days of License Expiration. As set forth above, SFUSD’s earth station license expired on May 19, 2019. This petition is being filed on June 12, 2019. Thus, SFUSD is filing this petition within 30 days of the license’s expiration date. 2. Explanation of Failure to Timely File Renewal Applications. The failure to file the license renewal applications resulted from a change in personnel by the station. Specifically, notice of the expiration was sent to the prior station manager, Matt Martin. Mr. Martin notified the current station manager, Tina Pamintuan, by email on May 30, 2019. Upon the discovery of

Procedures to Ensure Timely Filing of Future License Renewal Applications. Going forward, SFUSD will ensure that FCC regulatory compliance responsibilities will be covered by SFUSD personnel. Specifically, the license has been updated to list the current station manager, Tina Pamintuan, as the station’s contact, and the station manager has been specifically assigned responsibility for ensuring timely filing of future license renewal applications. Based upon the above information, SFUSD respectfully submits that grant of this petition to reinstate the license previously held by SFUSD for this earth station facilities will serve the public interest, convenience and necessity.
