$Request for Extension of Time to Certify Commencement of Operations ViaSat, Inc. (“ViaSat”) files this modification application to seek additional time to file the certification of commencement of operations required by Section 25.133 of the Commission’s rules to be filed within one year of the grant of an earth station authorization. The Commission granted earth station license, E110005 (File No. SES-LIC-20110125-00064), on March 8, 2011. However, ViaSat requires additional time to bring the authorized antenna into regular operations. The authorized antenna has been fully constructed and testing operations pursuant to special temporary authority have been completed. See File No. SES-STA-20110125-00065 (granted Jan. 28, 2011). ViaSat will operate the antenna in connection with a U.S. government program. ViaSat’s government customer is still testing other components of its system, which will not be fully operational until after the March 8, 2012 deadline for certifying commencement of operations of this earth station. Therefore, ViaSat requires additional time beyond the deadline to bring this antenna into regular operation under the terms of the license. ViaSat requests a six-month extension, until September 8, 2012, to commence regular operations of the antenna. Granting ViaSat additional time to bring the antenna into regular operation will serve the public interest. Allowing ViaSat to operate the antenna as soon as the other components of the government program are completed will permit efficient and timely commencement of the government program.
