APPLICATION FOR AUTHORIZATION TO OPERATE PRIVATE EARTH STATION Dear Ms. Dortch, We are pleased to file this application with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a Radio Spectrum License to operate one 1.8 meter VSAT earth station by the Barrick Gold of North America, Inc.’s (Barrick Gold) in the United States. Barrick Gold of North America, Inc.’s, belongs to the Barrick Gold Corporation Group. Barrick operates mines and advanced exploration and development projects on five continents, and holds large land positions on some of the most prolific and prospective mineral trends. As such, Barrick operates a private satellite network to connect its facilities in a variety of jurisdictions. Barrick Gold’s VSAT station in the United States will link its facilities in Nevada with its headquarters located in Toronto, Canada. The VSAT station will be used strictly for internal corporate communications only. Full technical and other details are set out in the attached documentation for your kind consideration. The law firm of Hyde & Associates, which specializes in telecommunications law, regulation and policy, has been retained by the Barrick Gold to ensure compliance of its VSAT network with the regulatory framework in each country of operation, including the United States.
