Re: Intelsat 2 De-orbit
       Call Sign: S2459

Dear Ms. Dortch:

Intelsat License LLC1 (“Intelsat”) hereby notifies the Commission that it
has successfully de-orbited its Intelsat 2 satellite. The final measured
orbit of the Intelsat 2 satellite -- reached on February 28, 2011 -- is
300.44 km above the geostationary arc, with an apogee and perigee of
342.28 km and 258.60 km above the arc, respectively. In the course of
de-orbiting the satellite, Intelsat depleted all the oxidizer but, due to
inconsistent or insufficient thruster firings near the propellant depletion
point, Intelsat is performing “open loop” maneuvers in order to maintain
earth pointing attitude. As a result, Intelsat is still in the process of
depleting the fuel.2 When all the fuel has been depleted, Intelsat will
discharge the batteries, disconnect the power from the bus, and shut off
the transmitters. Intelsat will further notify the Commission when that
has occurred.
