Re: Request for Extension of Special Temporary Autfiority to Continue Operating the Intelsat 702 Satellite, Call Sign $2388 Dear Ms. Dortch: Intelsat North America LLC ("Intelsat"), pursuant to Section 25.120 of the rules of the Federal Communications Commission ("FCC" or “Commlssmn”) herein requests a two—week extension — through April 21, 2009 — of the Special Temporary Authority ("STA") previously granted to Intelsat to continue operating the Intelsat 702 satellite (Call Sign $2388) at its current location of _ 54.85° E.L. Intelsat currently is drifting Intelsat 706 (Call Sign $2401)to 54.85° E.L. Once traffic has been transferred from Intelsat 702 to Intelsat 706, and following grant of a pendmg application for authority, Intelsat plans — to relocate Intelsat 702 to 66.0° E.L. in April 2009.4 The scheduledstart—of— drift date for Intelsat. 702 currently is April 15, 2009, Grant of this STA extension is in the public interest. This STA extension will ensure continuity of service to Intelsat‘s customers in the Indian Ocean Region pending regulatory approval and:—completion of redeployment maneuvers. _ During this temporary period, Intelsat agrees to comply with the existing conditions of its authorization to operate Intelsat 702 at 54.85° E.L:; Moreover, grant of this temporary request will not result in increased risk of harmful interference because Intelsat 702‘s operations at 54.85° E.L. are already on a non—harmful interference basis.
