       RE: XM Radio Inc.
Request for STA to Operate In—Store SDARS Signal Boosters
               File No. SAT—STA—20050601—00113

Dear Ms. Thomas:

On June 1, 2005, XM Radio Inc. ("XM®) filed the above—captioned request for Special
‘Temporary Authority ("STA") to operate up to 5000 in—store signal boosters in adition to the
5000 that have already been authorized. XM herein responds to the questions it received from
the Commission on July 14, 2005 regarding this request."
   1) XM and Sitius have installed and are operating approximately 3210 in—store signal
boosters. A large number of additional boosters are either in the process of being
delivered to or installed in stores. XM and Sirius expect the deployment rate to level off
after mid—2006 to approximately 8—10% per year.
2): Of the additional 5000 in—store signal boosters for which XM and Sirius have sought
authority in their June 2008 STA requests, approximately 3000 will use the newly—
developed single receive antenna configuration and 2000 will use the already—authorized
dual—receive antenna configuration. The choice of which antenna to use is determined on
a store—by—store basis. XM and Sirius do not currently plan to replace any already—
deployed in—store boosters with the single receive anterna configuration.
3): XM and Sirius estimate that approximately 4000 of the new in—store signal boosters will
be deployed over the next two years. XM and Sirius expect that the total number of in—
store signal boosters (Ze., the number of already deployed in—store signal boosters plus
