                   APPLICATION OF SES AMERICOM, INC.

By this application, SES AMERICOM, Inc. ("SES AMERICOM")

respectfully requests extension of its special temporary authority ("STA) to operate

its Satcom C-1 satellite for a period of six months through December 17, 2004.

Satcom C- 1 is a geostationary C-band satellite operating pursuant to STA at

37.5" W.L.'

              Satcom C-1 commenced operation July 22, 1991 at 137" W.L.2 After

AMC-7 was launched into that orbital position, Satcom C-1 operated for a short

time at 141.5"W.L., then was relocated to 79" W.L." I n May 2002, SES

AMERICOM requested authority to relocate Satcom C-1 to 37.5" W.L. in order to

provide follow-on service after the end of life of Columbia 515, and that application

was granted in July 2002. In August 2003 the Commission granted authority for

SES AMERICOM to provide capacity for direct-to-home services using Satcom C- 1.'

Satcom C- 1 remains capable of providing reliable and affordable C-

band service to customers. Granting a n extension of special temporary authority

for SES AMERICOM to operate Satcom C-1 for a n additional six-month period in

its current orbital position will serve the public interest by allowing the continued

use of Satcom C-1 to meet customer needs until a permanent replacement

spacecraft is launched into the 37.5" W.L. orbital location. Accordingly, grant of this

STA request will promote the efficient use of orbital resources.

For the foregoing reasons, the Commission should grant SES
                                                                                          *
